Pathfinder Regional Park is the future home of the Recreation District's outdoor sports fields and Fremont County's Activities Center and 4H facilities.

Located just East of Caņon City, North of Highway 115, the 180 acres will provide the community with a Regional Park full of recreation opportunities.

The majority of the funding, $500,000, to purchase the property from CF&I came from the Cotter Natural Resource Damage Recovery Funds. Fremont RE-2 School District and Fremont County also contributed to the purchase of the 180 acre parcell.

The Recreation District and Fremont County have been awarded an Energy and Mineral Impact Grant from the State of Colorado. The $300,000 grant will fund the Highway 115 access lanes.

The master plan for the park is complete. The Recreation District has broken down its' portion of the project into three phases. Phase one of Pathfinder Regional Park got underway during the summer of 2005. Phase one plans include 2 multi-use fields, playgrounds, picnic shelters and restroom/concession buildings. $500,000 has been secured through a grant from Greater Outdoors of Colorado (GOCO) to begin Phase 1.

Phase two plans focus mostly on the natural areas of the park and include extending the Arkansas Riverwalk East from MacKenzie Avenue into Pathfinder Regional Park. The Arkansas Riverwalk then will be developed withing the park and extend clear through to the East end. Plans also call for the development of a fishing area, river access trails and picnic areas. The Recreation District was awarded a Fishing is Fun grant in the amount of $113,000 for the construction of a fishing pond, boat ramp, parking lot, access roads and trails.

Phase three of the project calls for the construction of a four field softball/baseball complex and six additional multi-use fields. The current plan calls for a regulation high school baseball and fastpitch softball fields along with two adult softball fields. Funding for this portion of the Park will require additional funding from sources yet to be determined.

Well over $1.4 million in grant monies has been secured to this date for the Pathfinder Regional Park project!
